If PTI Members are Found Involved in May 9 Incidents, I Will Apologize: Imran Khan

Rawalpindi: Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has extended a conditional apology for the violence and protests that erupted on May 9, 2023. Khan’s statement comes amid ongoing tensions between his party and state authorities over the events of that day.

During a conversation with journalists, Khan called for the release of CCTV footage to confirm the involvement of PTI members in the disturbances. “If any PTI members are found to be involved in the May 9 events, I will apologize, expel them from the party, and ensure they are punished,” Imran Khan stated.

Khan also questioned the selective accountability applied to the incident, criticizing the disparity in respect and treatment towards different figures involved. The PTI founder mentioned that while the ISPR (Inter-Services Public Relations) is ‘respected’, no one respects the most popular person in nationally and internationally.

“I was dragged away by the army, but still there seems to be no acknowledgment of the disrespect shown towards Pakistan’s most popular figure, both nationally and internationally,” he said questioning whether they don’t owe him an apology.

Earlier, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), reiterated the military’s firm stance on the May 9 violence, emphasizing that accountability for those involved in the riots remains a priority.
