Hasina Wajid’s US Visa Canceled, UK Denies Political Asylum

New Delhi: After resigning and fleeing Bangladesh following the ousting of her authoritarian government, Prime Minister Hasina Wajid arrived in India, where she is staying at a secret location under the protection of the Indian government. Hasina Wajid’s troubles did not end upon her arrival in India as now the US has canceled her visa while the UK, where she was planning to take asylum has declined the request.

According to media sources, she planned to travel to the UK to seek political asylum and then possibly move to Finland. However, the newly elected British Prime Minister has declined her request for asylum under the country’s laws.

According to the new laws in the UK, an individual seeking political asylum must first stay temporarily in another country where their background, behavior, and asylum motives are evaluated before a decision is made. Due to this law, it is currently not possible for Hasina Wajid to immediately receive political asylum in the UK.

Meanwhile, Indian media reported that the United States has also canceled Hasina Wajid’s visa after she fled Bangladesh for India. However, there has been no official confirmation or denial from the US on this matter yet.

It is noteworthy that the spokesperson for the US State Department stated unequivocally in a news briefing that Washington stands with the people of Bangladesh.

Observers of global politics suggest that until the issue of political asylum in the UK is resolved, Hasina Wajid will likely be allowed to stay at a secure location in India.
