Karachi: Renowned Islamic scholar and President of Ittehad Tanzeemat-e-Madaris Pakistan, Maulana Mufti Taqi Usmani, has stated that secular individuals continuously engage in negative propaganda against religious schools. He expressed regret that even military institutions are now involved in such actions.
According to details, a press conference was held by Maulana Mufti Taqi Usmani, Maulana Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, and Hafiz Jalandhari from Ittehad Tanzeemat-e-Madaris Pakistan. Secretary General Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman stated that the meeting was held in the context of the DG ISPR’s press conference on July 22. The religious and madrasa community strongly condemns the DG ISPR’s statement, which suggested that 50% of religious schools and universities have unknown heads. He emphasized that the heads of these institutions are well-known to the nation, and they operate within the bounds of Pakistani law. Such language is unacceptable and has hurt the sentiments of leaders, teachers, students, and supporters of religious institutions across the country. They demand that the Army Chief instruct responsible officers to avoid treating the heads, teachers, and students of madrasas and universities as criminals or suspects.
In his statement, Mufti Taqi Usmani remarked that not knowing who is running 50% of the madrasas is a question being asked by those who can detect tunnels underground. He highlighted that there are misconceptions within the military institutions regarding madrasas.
He stated that the Army Chief should personally review this issue seriously. The freedom of thought and practice of religious schools will be safeguarded at all costs. Major conventions of religious schools will be held across the four provinces and the federal capital, and the public will be informed of the facts. The first provincial convention will be held in Karachi on August 28.
Mufti Taqi Usmani noted that the government has suspended the registration process for religious madrasas and demanded that madrasas be registered. He clarified that the restriction is imposed by the government, not by them.
He questioned the purpose of freezing bank accounts and demanded their reopening. The treatment of madrasas is unjust, and there is vigorous propaganda claiming that these schools do not provide proper education. In reality, these schools offer genuine education, unlike any school, college, or university that produces Hafiz-e-Quran. Recent meetings with the Army Chief and the Prime Minister about registration were halted when implementation was due. He questioned how long they will endure such issues and affirmed their commitment to protect madrasas at any cost, opposing the capitalist system and interest.
