Online Gaming Claims Another Youth’s Life in India

New Delhi: The issue of youth deaths related to online gaming has taken a dangerous turn worldwide. Many online games grip users’ minds, leading them to make extreme decisions in emotional states.

A similar incident occurred in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. A 16-year-old boy, an avid online gamer, became extremely emotional during a game and jumped from the window of his 14th-floor apartment, resulting in his death. The parents were unaware of which game he was playing or who his friends were. They couldn’t access his laptop because it was locked with a password they didn’t know.

Cyber experts were called in to unlock and operate the laptop. The boy’s father, from the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, stated that his son did not share his online activities with anyone and regularly deleted his browsing history. The boy also used multiple email accounts to conceal his identity.

Police found a sketchbook near the laptop with several sketches. The boy had left a logout note before jumping. The sketches suggest he was involved in a multiplayer or team game, similar to the notorious “Blue Whale” game.

The boy’s mother noted that for the past six months, his behavior had changed significantly, becoming more aggressive and reckless. He would sometimes ask for a knife or insist on putting his hand in a fire.

The mother expressed concern that many boys and girls are being negatively influenced due to easy access to dangerous websites. She called on the government to restrict access to all online games deemed dangerous.
