Islamabad: The Election Commission has designated 29 members of the Punjab Assembly as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members, following the Supreme Court’s order to allocate reserved seats to PTI.
According to details, the Election Commission has issued a notification recognizing these members as PTI affiliates. This decision also applies to 58 members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, 6 members of the Sindh Assembly, and the aforementioned 29 members of the Punjab Assembly.
Previously, the Election Commission had declared 39 members of the National Assembly as PTI members. These members had indicated their affiliation with PTI in their nomination papers. To be considered a party candidate, it is mandatory to submit the party ticket and declaration to the Returning Officer (RO). These 39 PTI members had not submitted the required party ticket and declaration.
For Returning Officers, it was impossible to designate these members as PTI candidates due to the lack of proper documentation. Additionally, 41 members who were designated as independent candidates had not declared their affiliation with PTI in their nomination papers nor submitted a party ticket. As a result, the ROs permitted them to contest the elections as independent candidates.
