Arshad Sharif Murder Case: Matter Sent to Three-Member Committee for Formation of Larger Bench

Islamabad: The matter of forming a larger bench for the suo motu notice case concerning the murder of journalist Arshad Sharif has been sent to a three-member committee.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan heard the suo motu notice case regarding the investigation of journalist Arshad Sharif’s murder. A three-judge bench, consisting of Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, conducted the hearing.

During the proceedings, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah remarked that the matter had not yet reached the three-member committee. In response, the Attorney General stated that interim reports had been presented to the court.

The Attorney General informed the court that a draft of the mutual legal assistance agreement had been prepared and would be approved in the upcoming cabinet meeting.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah inquired if any decision had been made by the Kenyan court. The Attorney General confirmed that a decision had indeed been made.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah also commented that the bench could not yet deliberate on the merits of the case.

Subsequently, the Supreme Court sent the matter of forming a larger bench for the suo motu notice on Arshad Sharif’s murder case to the three-member committee.
