Manchester: British police officers brutally assaulted two Pakistani individuals in front of their families at Manchester Airport. The incident, captured on video, has gone viral on social media.
The video shows police officers repeatedly punching and kicking the young men while other officers are seen shouting at bystanders to stay back. One of the young men’s mothers is seen trying to protect her son.
In a statement, Assistant Chief Constable Wasim Chaudhry said, “We know the incident at Manchester Airport is shocking, and people are rightly very concerned.” He acknowledged that the video is circulating widely.
He stated that the use of such force during an arrest is an unusual occurrence and creates concerning risks. He confirmed that one officer involved in the incident has been removed from operational duty and that the police response has been voluntarily referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
The IOPC stated that it would review the referral from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and decide on any necessary further action.
