Imran Khan Admits Calling for Protest Outside GHQ Prior to May 9 Arrest

Rawalpindi: Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister, has publicly acknowledged that he called for a protest outside the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi ahead of his arrest on May 9. The admission came during a media interaction inside Adiala prison, where Khan is currently detained.

In his statement, Khan revealed that the call for a peaceful demonstration was made in anticipation of his arrest. He also recounted incidents of police and Rangers raids on his residence in Zaman Park on March 14 and subsequent forced entry into his home on March 18.

Khan highlighted that on March 18, clashes occurred at the Judicial Complex, with shelling reported both inside and outside the premises. He referenced a previous incident involving fierce confrontations between his supporters and security forces, which had led him to suspect plans of either assassination or arrest within the Judicial Complex.

Reflecting on the events, Khan noted that his legal team had assured him of their cooperation with the investigation and willingness to surrender to the authorities if necessary.

Khan’s admission comes amidst ongoing scrutiny and legal challenges. His call for a protest and the subsequent incidents reflect the heightened tensions and complex dynamics surrounding his arrest and the broader political landscape in Pakistan.
