US Accused of Forcing Dr. Aafia Siddiqui to Convert to Christianity

Islamabad: Disturbing allegations have surfaced regarding Pakistani neuroscientist Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, currently incarcerated in a US federal prison being forced to convert to Christianity.

According to a report shared by Pakistani journalist Ansar Abbasi, Dr. Aafia is allegedly being coerced into reading the Bible and converting to Christianity by US authorities.

Dr. Aafia’s sister, Dr. Fouzia, contacted Abbasi and expressed grave concerns over her sister’s treatment in prison. She reported that despite being a devout Muslim, Dr. Aafia is being forced to read the Bible, marking a new ordeal in her already traumatic imprisonment.

Earlier reports had highlighted Dr. Aafia’s plight, including allegations of sexual assault at the Fort Worth, Texas jail where she is serving an 86-year sentence. Her American counsel, Stafford Smith, has continuously raised alarms about ongoing sexual harassment and violence, with recent claims that a security guard raped her as punishment just two weeks ago.

Smith further detailed the deplorable conditions under which he communicates with Dr. Aafia, citing defective phones and barriers during their meetings. Despite complaints, improvements in communication equipment were only made after significant delays.

Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s case has remained contentious for nearly two decades, originating from terrorism charges related to alleged links with Al Qaeda and an incident in Afghanistan where she was accused of attempting to shoot US soldiers. Her sentencing in Fort Worth, Texas has sparked international protests, particularly in Pakistan, amid widespread allegations of torture and injustice.
