Israeli Attacks in Gaza Kill 40, Injure 75 in a Day as Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

Gaza City: Israeli airstrikes across Gaza have killed at least 40 people in the past 24 hours, bringing the Palestinian death toll in Gaza to 38,193. The attacks have also left 75 people injured, raising the total number of injuries since October 7 to 87,903.

The most recent violence included an attack west of Rafah, where Israeli forces targeted a gathering near the Qadisiyah junction in the Tal as-Sultan neighborhood, killing at least four people and wounding many others, as reported by Palestinian media.

Amidst the ongoing conflict, the Israeli army has issued new evacuation orders for residents in several neighborhoods of Gaza City, including Sabra, Remal, Tal al-Hawa, and Daraj. Palestinians have been directed to move to a “humanitarian zone” in al-Mawasi, an area that has previously been attacked by Israeli forces.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen, with the World Food Program (WFP) reporting that almost half a million people are facing catastrophic levels of hunger. The WFP has called for a ceasefire, highlighting the unreliable access to food and limited stocks that prevent families from receiving necessary rations.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has reported the death of 196 of its employees in Gaza since the war began. Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini stated that over 50 percent of UNRWA institutions have been destroyed, and more than 500 people have been killed while seeking refuge in these facilities. An Israeli strike on a UNRWA-run school in Gaza City recently killed 16 people and injured 75 others.

Since the start of the conflict on October 7, at least 38,193 people have been killed, and 87,903 have been wounded in Gaza.

In the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces have demolished Amira School in the Masafer Yatta region, which served 70 students from first to fifth grade. The demolition is part of a long-standing pattern, with the UN documenting 36 “demolition incidents” affecting 20 schools in the West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem from 2010 to 2022.
