Riyadh: This year, a total of 922 individuals have died due to extreme heat while performing Hajj. Among them, 600 were Egyptian, 144 Indonesian, 68 Indian, 60 Jordanian, 35 Pakistani, 35 Tunisian, 11 Iranian, and 3 Senegalese.

According to Saudi media, on Monday, the temperature in the Grand Mosque of Makkah reached a record 51.8 degrees Celsius.

According to the news agency, this year, 1.8 million people performed the Hajj pilgrimage. During Hajj, the temperature had risen to 51.8 degrees Celsius.

Saudi media reported that in the largest morgue of Makkah, 900 bodies were brought, all of whom died due to heatwave.

According to Pakistan’s Director General of Hajj Mission, Abdul Wahab Somroo, four Pakistanis died in Mina, six in Madinah, three in Arafat, two in Muzdalifah, and 20 Pakistani pilgrims died in Makkah.

On Sunday Saudi it was stated that 2,700 people suffered from exhaustion due to heat. Saudi authorities disclosed that around 2,000 pilgrims are currently under treatment in various hospitals due to severe heat-related illnesses.

It should be noted that the Saudi Meteorological Department had predicted severe heat during the current Hajj season, and accordingly, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah had made arrangements for water fountains and cool water at various locations for the pilgrims.

However according to sources, the majority of pilgrims who died from heatwave are those who did not register themselves for Hajj, therefore they could not access air-conditioned locations.

On the other hand, search operations are underway for 20 missing pilgrims who had come from Jordan.
