Karachi: 570 Buildings Declared Dilapidated and Dangerous, Residents Warned

Karachi: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has declared a total of 722 buildings, including 570 in Karachi, as dangerous and unfit for habitation. Residents have been warned to immediately vacate these buildings for the protection of valuable human lives.

According to details, in view of the upcoming monsoon rains, the Sindh Building Control Authority under the directives of Director General Abdul Rasheed Solangi has expedited the survey of dilapidated buildings.

As per survey reports, Karachi has 570 such buildings, Hyderabad region has 81, Sukkur region has 60, Mirpurkhas region has 7, and Larkana region has 4 buildings declared dangerous and unfit for use.

Some of these dangerous buildings in Karachi are also included in the national historical heritage.

The SBCA has once again alerted occupants and users of these dangerous buildings, especially in anticipation of heavy rains, urging them to immediately vacate these buildings due to the increased risk of collapses and fire incidents caused by sudden land subsidence and short circuits during rainfall.

In this regard, the SBCA has also requested the general public to inform them in writing at their office, Sindh Building Control Authority, Sindh Secretariat, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi, or through their official website about any dilapidated structures, structural flaws, or substandard constructions within densely populated urban areas for humanitarian consideration.
