Afridi leaves Peshawar Zalmi after winning PSL 2017 trophy

LAHORE: Shahid Khan Afridi, in the wee hours of Saturday announced to quit his cousin owned PSL franchise Peshawar Zalmi both as a player and as a President of the Peshawar Zalmi Foundation.

Citing personal reasons behind the resignation, Afridi tweeted early Saturday that “Won the trophy with one team, time for another. I am announcing my end of service as president and player of Peshawar Zalmi team due to personal reasons.”

Afridi wished good luck for Peshawar Zalmi and said that his fans will follow him wherever he will go.

Afridi scored 177 runs in 10 matches in PSL2 for Peshawar, becoming the fifth highest scorer for the franchise with an average of 25.28. He also contributed with the ball taking only two wickets in the 10 outings.

Shahid Afridi led Peshawar Zalmi in the first edition of PSL but stepped aside from captain’s role after being named as the president of Franchise ahead of the second edition and handed over the captaincy to Darren Sammy.
