Tension heightens in Karachi, Hyderabad

KARACHI: Tension heightened in several areas of Karachi and Hyderabad on Friday when police and paramilitary force launched a joint crackdown to prevent an event organized by MQM-London chapter.

Police began baton charge on hundreds of MQM-L workers, including women and children who were gathered at Liaquat Ali Khan Chowk previously known as Mukka Chowk to mark Youm-e-Shuhada on the call of top leadership.

According to police, five demonstrators were taken into custody.

A similar situation was witnessed in Hyderabad also.

MQM-London workers chanted slogans in favour of their founder and carried out wall chalking in the area.

A heavy contingent of police reached Pakka Qila area of Hyderabad where the situation was tense.
