New Army Chief Gen Qamar Bajwa meets PM Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Zubair Hayat was also accompanied.

“General Zubair Hayat and General Qamar Bbajwa have reached PM House, where they are meeting PM Nawaz Sharif,” a statement by the official PML-N twitter account said.

The Prime Minister held one-on-one meetings with the two generals and felicitated them on their appointments.

The meeting comes soon after the appointment of General Zubair Mahmood Hayat as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and General Qamar Javed Bajwa as Chief of the Army Staff (COAS).

According to a spokesperson Prime Minister House, on the advice of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, President Mamnoon Hussain promoted Lt Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat and Lt Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa to the rank of General.

The profile of newly appointed CJCSC): Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat was commissioned in Artillery Regiment on October 24, 1980.

He is graduate of Fort Sill Oklohoma, USA, Command and Staff College Camberlay United Kingdom and National Defence University, Islamabad.

He has wide experience of command, staff and instructional appointments. He has commanded an artillery regiment, mechanized division artillery, an infantry Brigade and an Infantry Division.

Gen Zubair has been Adjutant at PMA, Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade, Army and Air adviser at Pakistan embassy in the United Kingdom. He has also been Chief of Staff of a Strike Corps, Private Secretary to the COAS and Director General Staff Studies Directorate at GHQ.

He has also held the appointment of Director General Strategic Plan Division (SPD). He has commanded 31 Corps Bahawalpur and is presently Chief of the General Staff at GHQ.

The profile of newly appointed COAS: Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa  was commissioned in 16 Baloch Regiment on October 24, 1980.  He is a graduate of Canadian Forces Command and Staff College, (Toronto) Canada, Naval Post Graduate University, Monteray (California) USA, National Defence University, Islamabad.

Qamar Bajwa has been an instructor at School of Infantry and Tactics, Quetta, Command and Staff College, Quetta and NDU. He has also been Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade and Chief of Staff of Rawalpindi Corps.

Bajwa has commanded 16 Baloch Regiment, an Infantry Brigade and Infantry Division in Northern Areas (Commander FCNA).

He has also commanded Pakistan Contingent in Congo. He has commanded Rawalpindi Corps, and is presently Inspector General Training and Evaluation at GHQ.
