Peshawar trump Karachi Whites in National T20 thriller

RAWALPINDI: Peshawar thrashed Karachi Whites by three wickets in a thrilling contest in their first match of the ongoing Cool & Cool presents Jazz National T20 Cup here at Pindi Stadium, Rawalpindi on Friday.

Though Anwar Ali hit over long-on fence for a six on the bowling of right-arm medium fast Tariq Haroon in the fourth ball of last over, it was a blistering 30-ball 49-run knock by opener Rafatullah Mohmand that actually provided Peshawar a solid base to chase 152 runs target.

Rafatullah; whose catch was taken by Azam Hussain on the bowling of slow left-arm bowler hit four boundaries and as many sixes. The other opener, Israrullah also played a fine knock of 27 runs off 19 balls with the help of three boundaries and a six.

He was caught by Akbar on the bowling of pacer Sohail Khan. Fakhar Zaman, who came one-down made 29 off 16 balls with the help of two fours and equal number of sixes. Two-down batsman Sohaib Maqsood made 10 off 13 balls and Iftikhar Ahmed scored 17 off 19 balls. However, after Iftikhar the next two wickets fell cheaply. But at the end Anwar Ali held the nerve to give victory.

This was also Karachi Whites second consecutive defeat of the event, the first was handed over to them by Karachi Blues on Thursday. Earlier, Karachi Whites won the toss and elected to bat first.

Opener Rameez Raja Junior failed to impress as he scored just seven off 10 balls and was given Ibw on the bowling of left-arm medium-fast Imran Khan.

The other opener Zain Abbas made 33 off 29 balls with the help of five boundaries before he was given Ibw on the bowling of slow left-arm spinner Zohaib Khan.

Experienced batsmen, Asad Shafiq came on one-down position and collected 27 runs off 24 balls with the help of two boundaries.

The main contribution for Karachi Whites came from their captain Akbar-ur-Rehman, who fell just two runs short of his fifty. He faced 27 balls for 48 runs, hammering four boundaries and two sixes. Rafatullah was given man-of-match award for his superb innings. – APP
