Mohammad Irfan to miss England tour for fittness

LAHORE: National Chief Selector Inzimam ul Haq has stated that giant left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Irfan will not be picked for England tour, despite his inclusion in fitness camp.

Inzimam was announcing named of 35 players picked for the fitness camp for England tour in Lahore, when he stated that Mohammad Irfan will be rested for upcoming England series.

“Our committee after numerous meetings has agreed on these names. We have decided to give Irfan rest for England tour, he will be called in the fitness camp, but won’t be considered for England series as his physique does not allow him.”

Right arm fast bowler Mohammad Sami was also left-out of the initial squad for his fitness and consistency issues.

The selection committee also neglected Pakistan Cup top scorer Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal for disciplinary issues.

“Shehzad and Umar don’t have enough performances and lack discipline,” said Inzimam. “Wherever there will be a disciplinary problem, we will take a step. And you should expect this selection committee to be a little stern on discipline.”

Inzimam justifying his decision over Shahid Afridi’s drop stated that  firebrand all-rounder will also not be part of the camp as he has been given ‘rest’.
