New Zealand wins ‘Bank Note of the Year Award’

WELLINGTON-  $5 bank note of New Zealand has won the ‘Bank Note of the Year Award’ out of 19 notes from around the world.

According to the details, there were other 19 nominations and New Zealand won the award. The award was conferred by the International Bank Note Society (IBNS), an organization which is dedicated to the study and collection of bank notes.

Other runner-ups include Sweden’s 20 Kronor note, Russia’s 100 Ruble note, Kazakhstan’s 20,000 Tenge note and Scotland’s (Clydesdale Bank) 5 Pound note.

The Kiwis’ note is dominantly occupied by orange shade, and features mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary, one of the first climbers to reach Mount Everest. Whereas on the other, a native yellow eyed penguin is demonstrated standing among the stunning, sub-Antarctic surrounds of Campbell Island.

“We are proud of all of New Zealand’s new banknotes, but to have our $5 note recognized internationally is very special,” says the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank, Geoff Bascand.

“The note incorporates some of the world’s most advanced security features, yet still beautifully showcases New Zealand’s history, culture and heritage,” he says.

It is pertinent to mention here that this note was made in Ottawa, Canada, as the International Bank Note Society informs.
