Cyber Crime Bill to be brought in National Assembly today

ISLAMABAD- Government is ready to bring ‘the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Bill, 2015’ in the National Assembly today.

The Minister of State of Information Technology and Telecommunication and a member of National Assembly, Anusha Rahman Khan will move the bill to the assembly and it is supposed to be taken into consideration at once. The amendments will be listed separately and then be moved.

The report on ;Prevention of Electronic Crimes Bill, 2015’ was present before the Lower House of the Parliament on December 11, 2015 by Chairman Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, Captain (Retd) Muhammad Safdar.

If the bill is passed by the National Assembly, it will be sent to Senate of Pakistan and then to Senate Standing Committee on IT. The final discussion will be carried out when the Bill reaches the Senate. When the Upper House of the Parliament concludes its discussion the Bill will be presented for voting and will be passed with simple majority.

The Bill was drafted by the current government in 2014 but it was shelved in the face of the back lash from the civil society and activists. Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication slightly amended the bill and presented it in the national Assembly.

The bill may face resistance from the opposition parties, mainly by PPP and MQM as hinted by their senior leaders.
