NEW DELHI: Vowing to take their relations to a “higher level”, India and China on Friday agreed to “increase cooperation on counter terrorism mechanism” and law enforcement.

Home Minister Rajanth Singh, on a six-day visit to China, tweeted after meeting Chinese Premier Li Keqiang: “We agreed to increase cooperation on counter terrorism mechanism and discussed a range of other important issues.” Reported Indian Express.

He said he had “a fruitful meeting” with Li.

The minister also met the Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China, Meng Jian Zhu.

“We had a detailed discussion on a range of issues where both the countries can actively cooperate with each other,” he said.

Earlier, an official statement here said the meeting between Singh and Li lasted for 40 minute and both the sides agreed that their ties would not only benefit the region but also the world.

“…There is a common consensus to take bilateral relations to a higher level. In this context, it was agreed that bilateral cooperation in the field of law enforcement is very important,” it added.

Rajnath Singh also met State Councillor and Minister for Public Security Guo Shengkun.

There was a general agreement between two the countries that urbanisation and technological advancements posed new challenges for law enforcement agencies.

The two sides felt there was merit in exchanging views on these challenges and initiate a process of mutual sharing, experiences and learning.
