Yasir Shah to play against Australia in place of injured Irfan

ADELAIDE: As Pakistan lanky fast bowler Muhammad Irfan was ruled out of World Cup, the tour selection committee is mulling to include Yasir Shah in the playing eleven for the highly-charged quarter final against tournament favourites Australia.

Sources said that as any replacement of Irfan could only be possible after the Friday’s match (if Pakistan win)  the team think tank is mulling to play leg-spinner Yasir Shah.

They said that as Ehsan Adil, who replaced Irfan,  was not very impressive against Ireland and Adelaide pitch will not offer good support to seamers so the think tank is in favour of indulging the rookie leg spinner for the big match.

Meanwhile, former cricketers are criticizing team management for not playing Yasir Shah in matches against opponents who are weak in playing spin.

Former cricketer and commentator Ramiz Raja said that Yasir Shah was wicket takers and such a bowler was needed.

The former cricketer argued that the team should have played Shah against Ireland, as Irish batsmen are weak against spinners.

Raja pressed Pakistan to include Shah in the team in the quarter-finals against Australia.

“If you do not use a leg spinner in a match against Australia then when will you use him,”? he said.

He was of the view that Pakistan reached the quarter-finals after taking an unnecessary pressure; they could have won against West Indies and wouldn’t have had to face Australia.

However, adds Raja, pressure in Adelaide will be on the host team.
