ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist and columnist Saleem Safi has said that cohesion and harmony among civil and military leadership is necessary for success of the ongoing fight against terrorism and for that purpose the government should remove Defence Minister Khwaja Asif and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, as military leadership has reservations about them.
In his column in Daily Jang newspaper on Saturday, the senior journalist said that Peshawar attack was the gravest tragedy the nation had ever faced.
He said that for successfully facing the challenge of terrorism and extremism, civilian and military leadership were required to be on same page. For improving the ongoing strain relations between the civilian and military leadership, he proposed the government to immediately remove the Defense Minister and Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs.
“The fact of the matter is that the military has not wholeheartedly accepted Khwaja Sahib (Khwaja Asif) as defense minister for a single day since his appointment. Same is the case of Fatemi Sahib (Tariq Fatemi), who needed to be removed and a suitable person be appointed as Foreign Minister,” he wrote in his column on Saturday.
