Islamabad: Government has taken an unprecedented step and fired chairman National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Tariq Malik without any notice and appointed brigadier (Rtd) Zahid as acting chairman.
According to sources, Tariq Malik was the main figure in a recounting process in multiple constituencies including NA-256 and NA-258 on the instructions of Election Tribunal.
NADRA had revealed that magnetic ink would have not used in both the constituencies.
Election tribunal also had given order to Tariq Malik to start recounting process in NA-118.
Analysts said government has some fear regarding the recounting process started in Punjab and this may be the reason the government has taken unprecedented action.
Tariq Malik was scheduled to give briefing to newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner Nasir-ul-Mulk Tuesday (today) regarding the process.
At least 400 requests has been pending regarding recounting of the votes.
