ISLAMABAD: Rallies and mourning processions were taken out across the country on Wednesday to recall the great sacrifices of Hazrat Abbas and his family in Karbala.
Meanwhile, the rangers’ personnel have been deployed in federal capital for the protection of Youme Ashur processions. The interior ministry has issued new security directions to the law enforcement agencies for averting any untoward incident on the occasion of the Youme Ashur.
The day of 8th of Muharram is dedicated to Hazrat Abbas, the son of fourth caliph of Islam Hazrat Ali (R.A).
Hazrat Abbas is revered by Muslims for his role in the Battle of Karbala and loyalty to his half-brother Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).
Amid tight security arrangements throughout the country, majalis and processions were held in Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and other towns in which hundreds of people participated.
With army deployment in sensitive parts of the country, thousands of personnel of police, Rangers and Frontier Constabulary (FC) have been deployed for the security of religious processions.
In Karachi, army troops have taken their positions in sensitive areas as over 26,000 police and Rangers personnel have been deployed across the city.
Authorities had sealed all shops and blocked with containers all link-roads along the main M.A. Jinnah Road to ensure the security of 8th Muharram processions.
Imam Hussain (R.A) was martyred in the 680 A.D. battle fought on the plains outside Karbala, a city in modern Iraq that’s home to the Imam’s holy shrine.
Hazrat Abbas was the Imam Hussain’s guide (Qafila Salar) and flag holder (Alamdar) of the Fauj-e-Hussaini, whose bravery has been termed similar to that of the Hazrat Ali, fourth Muslim Caliph.
