LAHORE: Pakistanis likely to celebrate their 66th Independence Day on August 14 2013 under heavy rainfall as Met department forecasted intense monsoon cycle across the country in next 72 hours.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division of the Met department in Lahore said that heavy rainfalls are expected in this year on August 14.
Preparations for the celebration of Pakistan Independence Day across the country might be sabotaged due to heavy rains .
Pakistan annually celebrates its independence day owing to the freedom gained from British and Hindus. To honor the sacrifices by the elders, different events are organized such as patriotic songs, flag raising event, cultural events, distributing sweets and badges and performing prayers.
Pakistan’s Met sources said that intense monsoon spell hit in the northern parts of the country including Islamabad as many parts experienced moderate rainfall after a dull day.
On August 14, the weather over the federal capital would remain mostly cloudy with rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning occurring in the city.
All the buildings on that day hoist flags to mark the momentous occasion. The youth especially paint their vehicles in White and Green and also wear green and white attire especially White and green.
The MET department has imposed emergency in several areas during expected heavy rains and has informed all the authorities to be ready for combating the flood-like situatio as River Chenab and River Kabul are in low flood whereas River Indus at Guddu at Chashma is in medium flood.
Sukkur, Tarbela, Kalabagh and Taunsa are also reported to be in low flood. During the next 2 to 3 days, Ganda Singh Wala’s River Sutlej will remain low in the next 24 hours.
River Jhelum, Chenab and other nullahs such as Bunnah, Bhimber‚ Bhundar‚ Halsi‚ Daulti‚ Aik‚ Palku and Kahan may get very high flood as a result of widespread raining. Similar situation is feared in Rivers Gambila ‚ Kabul and Kurram along with associated tributaries.
Similar situation is also expected in the nullah of Ravi River including Tarnah ‚ Deg ‚ Bhed ‚ Hasri ‚ Jhajri ‚ Bassantar ‚ Bein and Ujh.
From Tuesday to Thursday, flooding in urban areas is also expected in Hazara Division, Lahore‚ Gujranwala‚ Faisalabad‚ Sargodha‚ Rawalpindi‚ D I Khan‚ Peshawar‚ Kohat‚ Bannu and Malakand. Hill Torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan Dera Ghazi Khan are also feared to undergo flash flooding.
Scattered Rain with thunderstorm is expected in Kohat Division, Rivers Jhelum‚ Chenab‚ Ravi and Sutlej and Upper Punjab during next 24 hours.
Awaran Division, Peshawar‚ Malakand‚ Hazara‚ Multan‚ Sahiwal‚ Bahawalpur‚ DG Khan and Khuzdar is also expected to have scattered thunderstorm and rain.
