KARACHI: University of Karachi (UoK) has organised distribution ceremony of Erasmus Mundus Europe Asia (EMEA) scholarships on Tuesday.
“Due to the fact that University of Karachi is one of the premier institutions of higher learning and research, it has been enlisted among the top universities of world. The pace of development will be continued with great vigor and motivation”, expressed the Vice-Chancellor, University of Karachi, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser, during the ceremony.
Prof. Dr. Shahana Urooj Kazmi, the Coordinator of -Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Programme informed that the EMEA Scholarship is a fully funded by European Union.
She added that the students, teachers, researchers and University staff (academic or administrative positions) are selected in the project.
University of Karachi is one of the Asian Partner Universities of Erasmus Mundus Europe Asia (EMEA) program and being a partner university, our candidates’ applications are considered under Target Group 01 Budget Group A.
The scholarships are fully funded and span from one month administrative training to 34 months research in European universities for BS, MS, M.Phil, Ph.D. research work.
While addressing the ceremony Dr. Qaiser said those who have attained the scholarship would act as ambassadors of Pakistan at their respective foreign universities, and are a testament to the fact that the University’s education standards are at par with the academic quality of international institutions.
The Vice Chancellor added that he believed that the university would continue helping students in this regard in the future as well.
Dean Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences, Prof. Dr. Abuzar Wajidi said that the fact is indeed prestigious that University of Karachi was the first Pakistani university selected as a consortium member of the EU project Erasmus Mundus Europe Asia.
In the third project of EMEA ten candidates were awarded the scholarships who will be studying at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki – Greece, Lund University- Sweden, University of Milan – Italy, University of Warsaw – Poland, University of College Dublin – Ireland, University College London – Great Britain and University of Amsterdam – The Netherlands.
Candidates includes Sidra Rehman – Department of Chemical Engineering, Mahrukh Siddiqui – Women Studies, Fatima Tanveer – Women studies, Arsalan Ali – HEJ, Rubab Maqsood – Microbiology, Meher Hassan – Genetics, Adil Shakeel Ahmed – Faculty of Science, Uzma Urooj Malik – Proteomics, Muhammad Sohail – Microbiology, Dr. Syed Musharraf – HEJ and Hafsa Shafaat – Women Studies. On this occasion, Deans of faculties of Arts, Pharmacy, Management and administrative Sciences, Islamic Studies along with their faculty members were also present.
They appreciated the dedicated efforts of UoK faculty who trained these students to be able to compete in the international scholarship programme.
