Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said former ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani has to appear before the apex court.
Chief Justice made the remarks as he was hearing the Memogate case on Monday.
Haqqani allegedly had a memo delivered to Admiral Mike Mullen with the help of Mansoor Ijaz. The memo sought US government help against Pakistan’s powerful army after May 2 raid that killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
During the hearing, Haqqani’s counsel Asma Jehangir maintained that her client cannot appear before the court because of security reasons, and submitted a letter written to the Interior Ministry in this regard.
The next hearing will be on February 12.
