Karachi: Fakhra Younus, an acid attack victim who committed suicide in Italy on March 17, was laid to rest in a local graveyard in Karachi on Sunday.
According to The News Tribe correspondent, Fakhra was buried in a graveyard in Defence area of the city after offering her funeral prayers.
Earlier, Fakhra’s body reached Jinnah International Airport from Italy, where Pakistan’s renowned philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, Fakhra’s sister and other human right activists, politicians and Italian diplomats received it.
Her body was sent to Pakistan after offering funeral prayers in the Hospital Ground in Rome.
In her last written message before committing suicide, Fakhra said that she was committing suicide over silence of law on the atrocities and insensitivity of Pakistani rulers.
Fakhra, wife of former member of Punjab Assembly Bilal Khar, had been undergoing treatment for acid scarred tissues, including multiple corrective surgeries in Rome.
She ended life by jumping off sixth floor of her flat. She was attacked with acid 12 years ago allegedly by her husband.
A large number of women from MQM also staged a protest at the airport and demanded arrest of the accused involved in acid attack on Fakhra.
