Washington: Pakistan’s former military ruler President Pervez Musharraf allowed the United States to launch drone attacks in Pakistan’s tribal region near Afghan border, Washington Post reported.
According to the newspaper, the CIA would inform Musharraf prior to the drone attacks until the democratic government took charge in Feb 2008.
The Post said by mid-2008, Musharraf had turned down nearly as many strikes as he had approved, and the administration believed that some insurgent leaders had been warned by the Pakistanis of their presence on the CIA target list.
The paper said, half of the 44 attacks in Pakistan over a four-year period took place in the last four months of 2008.
