Renowned Pakistani journalist Hameed Akther passes away

Lahore: Renowned Pakistani columnist, journalist, producer and poet Hameed Akhter died at the age of 87 in a Lahore hospital after a long battle with cancer on late Sunday.

Akther died at Shaukat Khanum Hospital during treatment at 9:30 pm (local time).

Doctors at the hospital say that Akther brought in the hospital very late for treatment.

He was a key member of Subcontinent’s journalist development association. He remained in touch with writing and journalism for at least 60 years.

He was also writer of several books and regular writer of Express Newspaper’s column Pursish-e-Ahwal.

He left behind a son and three daughters.

His funeral prayer will be offered on Tuesday because his two daughters live abroad.
