Sanaa: Al Qaeda leader Anwar Awlaki has been killed in Yemen, news agencies reported here Friday
According to a statement released by Yemen’s defence ministry, Awlaki was killed along with other companions in al-Jawf province some 140 km from the capital Sanaa.
The statement did not elaborated circumstances in which the US-born Awlaki was killed.
Tribal sources said that the al Qaeda leader was targeted in an airstrike .
Al Jazira said that the airplane that carried out the strike was likely to be American, according to tribal sources, who added that US aircraft had been patrolling the skies over Marib for the past several days.
