Quetta: At least 26 people were killed and several others injured when armed men opened fire on a bus in Mastaung district of Balochistan here on Tuesday.
According to sources, six unidentified men on three motorcycles intercepted the bus near Lakpass and opened fire. However, eyewitness said that the assailants vacated the bus and asked all the passengers to queue up and subsequently opened fire on them.
The sources said that the bus carrying 38 Shittee Muslim pilgrims on board was heading towards Iran from Quetta .
Eyewitness said that the victims were shot from close range. Levis and police rushed to the spot. The dead and injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) while some of the injured were taken to Bolan Medical Complex in Quetta.
Sources said that most of the injured were in critical condition. Deputy Commissioner Mastaung Saeed Imrani confirmed the death toll, saying that number of casualties was feared to be increased.
