Oslo: At least 37 people have been killed in a bomb blast and a shooing incident in the Norwegian capital Oslo on Friday, wounding several others, local police and media reported.
According to latest reports, the death toll may rise as several injured were said to be in critical condition. At least seven people were reportedly killed in the explosion while 30 others were shod dead in firing.
An eyewitness has told Norwegian state broadcaster NRK that he saw 20 to 25 bodies at the youth camp in Utoya Iceland.
Andre Scheie said: “There are very many dead but he shore… there are about 20-25 dead.
Witnesses said that they saw victims with glass wounds fleeing to safe spots from where the attack occurred. The bomb that ripped through Oslo city, detonated at 3:20 pm local time.
Soon after the blast heavy firing reported at the youth camp in Utoya Iceland.
Local police claimed to have arrest three assailant and were being investigated in tight security.
Police have said they have “arrested the assailant, and we believe that he’s connected to both the bombings in Oslo and the shootings.”
Most of the windows from the prime minister’s 17 story office building were blown out while the Oil Ministry caught fire after the blast, reports said.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg was unharmed, Reuters reported.
No one has yet claimed the responsibility of the attack.
Emergency has been imposed in Oslo and security forces have been put on high alert.
It was stated to be the worst incident of terrorism in Norway’s history. Business activities have been shut in Oslo after the blast and shooting incident, generating panic and fear among the citizens.
