PR cancels 21 trains on different routes

Lahore: Pakistan Railways has cancelled operation of 21 passenger trains due to lack of engines and fuel shortage.

After supply of diesel, the engine sheds have run out of lube oil stocks. It only has enough to last for one day.

The PR had sought Rs 3.5 billion from the government but it was given only Rs 2 billion.

Railways Headquarters officials said that they had to cancel the trains for Lahore, Multan, Mirpur Khas, Lalamusa, Sargodha, Attock, Mianwali, Bahawalnagar, Shor Kot, Pakpattan and Kasur due to lack of engines.

Sources also revealed that they had reserves of 830,000-litre diesel but only 45 drums of lube oil for engines.

They officials said that Rs 2 billion released by the government had to be diverted to the salaries and pensions of the employees.
