Dhaka: At least 40 children were killed when the truck they were travelling in plunges into a canal in south-east Bangladesh, news agencies report on Monday.
The ill-fated truck met the accident when 80 children were returning from a soccer tournament.
The accident took place in Chittagong district close to the capital, Dhaka.
Death toll is feared to rise with officials saying that the number of dead may be higher.
Earlier a senior police officer in Chittagong district, Ruhul Amin Siddiqui, told a news channel that 40 bodies had been recovered from the accident site.
