India: 35 killed, 250 injured as train derails in UP

New Delhi: At least 35 people were killed and 250 others were injured after eight boggies of Kalka Mail derailed near Malwa Station in UP.

Indian TV reported that at lest 250 people received injuries in the incident. One eyewitness said that around 10-15 boggies of the train derailed at high speed. He said some of the derailed bogies got mangled badly. The engine of the train reportedly also derailed.

Railways have dispatched two medical vans from Allahabad and Kanpur. One train has also been sent to the spot to bring back the passengers.

Senior Railway officials have rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

AK Jain, ADG, Railways has confirmed the train accident. He, however, said it was difficult for him to give exact information about the number injured or dead at this point of time.
