Karachi mayhem: Death toll touches 104

Karachi: Two more people were killed on Saturday and many others injured  in different  areas of the metropolis, bringing the death toll to 104 in the recent spate of  ethnic violence started on Tuesday  in Karachi, home to at least 20 million people and commercial hub of the nuclear armed nation.

In the fresh wave of ethnic violence, a man was shot dead in Kanwari Colony of Manghopir. While another man was gunned down in Kati Pahari area of Orangi Town.

Unidentified armed men opened fire on a passenger bus near Hasan Square. As a result, one man was killed and another was injured in the incident.

Unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate fire at a bus stop in PIB colony, leaving  three people dead on the spot.

In another incident, two people were shot dead in Mawach Goth, Baldia Town.

Meanwhile, a bullet-riddled body was recovered from Lea Market. The body was packed in a gunny bag.

A child was killed in Shah Faisal Colony while four people were injured in the incident.

While, two people were shot dead within the limits of New Town Police Station.

A man was gunned down in Lines Area. However, heavy firing continued near Hasan Square. However, no casualty reported yet.

According to media reports, two rival political parties, MQM and ANP, were fighting each others.

At least three people were killed and several others injured when unknown armed men opened fire on a passenger bus near Hasan Square. Reports said two armed groups were battling  in  the adjacent Sabzi Mandi and Esa Nagri areas.

Unknown miscreants hurled a hand grande in Bheem Pura area of Rinchor Line, killing three and injuring four others.

According to sources,  three people were killed in Landhi and 3 in Qasba Colony and adjacent areas. Two people were killed in Baldia Twon while many others were injured in Sultanabad, Nazimad, and Shah Faisal Colony. The sources said that exchange of fire was continued in Sultanabad .

They sources said two people lost their lives in Pak Colony area amid violent protest on roads.  Sources said roads in the area were blocked. Two rickshaws were set ablaze at Neepa Chowrangi of Gulshan-e-Iqbal by unidentified people.

Moreover, three people were killed in Kharadar, Katti Pahari and Nazimad areas.Police said one man was killed and three others received injuries in Peer Abad police precincts in Orangi Town. A bullet riddled body of youth was recovered in Soldier Bazar area . Two labourers were gunned down in Kattai Pahari in the latest incident of target killing.

City remained in the grip of violence with the MQM and ANP blaming each other for involvement in the killing of innocent citizens. Meanwhile, funeral prayers of those who lost their lives in firing incidents on Thursday evening have been offered in various parts of Karachi amid tight security .
