Islamabad: The commission formed to probe May 2 US raid in Abbottabad that led to killing of Osama bin Laden, held maiden meeting here on Tuesday.
The meeting was presided over by its head Justice Javed Iqbal and attended by its members Lt Gen (retd) Nadeem Ahmed, former inspector general of police Abbas Khan and former ambassador Ashraf Jehangir Qazi while Cabinet Division Secretary Narigs Sethi was also present in the meeting as secretary of the commision.
According to media reports the commission chalk out modalities on how to move.
Reports say the commission decided to conduct interviews with the concerning people regarding the May 2 incident.the commission also decided that it would visit the Abbottabad if needed. Sources said that the Director General Military Operations will give briefing to the members of the commission during the next meeting scheduled on July 11.
The commission was formed by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on June 21, appointing senior judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Javed Iqbal as its head.
The commission is being considered most significant commission of Pakistan’s history after Hammudur Rehman Commission which carried out investigation into the Fall of Dhaka, recommending punishments for high ranking government functionaries, including Gen Yahya Khan.
The observers are rasing questions whether the Abbottabad Commission would be bold like the Hammudur Rehman Commission.
