Karachi: At least five students were injured in a cracker blast that occurred outside the Karachi University’s (KU) main cafeteria on Tuesday.
Following the blast panic gripped the students as they were seen, especially the girl students running towards the exit gate of the campus.
Rangers and police cordoned off site of the blast, shifted the injured to hospital and evacuated the varsity.
“I was inside the cafeteria when the huge explosion took place, and we ran towards exit’ a student told this scribe.
Police said the blast, said to be of moderate intensity, took place at a place dedicated for prayers near cafeteria, adding that entrance and exit points have been closed and vehicles are being searched.
Capital City Police Officer Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari told media that three crackers blasts were occurred on the KU campus.
All the examinations scheduled for Tuesday evening have been postponed, the university’s registrar said.
Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad Khan and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah have taken notice of the blasts and directed the authorities concerned to initiate an investigation into the incident.
